Salovin WinterGuard Wrap™
A fitted wrap for winter hive preparation.
How It Works
The wrap adds insulation around the hive and slows heat loss through the walls. It also blocks cold wind, so the cluster does not have to work as hard to stay warm. Bees burn less honey through winter, which means more food left for them (preventing starvation) and more honey left for spring harvest.

Meet WinterGuard Wrap™.
See WinterGuard Wrap™ in their hands. Picture it on your hive.
Made for winter hive preparation
Give your hive extra insulation for winter.
Your bees generate their own warmth through winter. Extra hive insulation helps slow the loss of that heat, supporting their efforts to stay warm. WinterGuard Wrap™ makes adding that layer straightforward, with adjustable straps and a reopenable closure, so you can prepare your hive without cutting panels or taping seams.
Find the fit for your hive-
Four layers around the hive body
Oxford polyester, pearl cotton and two silver-coated layers come together in one cover.
-
A tidy, fitted setup
Close the overlap, fasten both buckles and adjust the straps to your compatible hive.
-
Open and refasten
Release the buckles and open the overlap when you need to loosen or remove the wrap.
Winter preparation. Wrap, close, buckle.
WinterGuard Wrap™ brings a wraparound cover, hook-and-loop closure and two buckle straps together in one fitted design.
Watch the wrap fasten
See the overlap close, followed by the upper and lower buckles fastening around the hive.
Two adjustable buckle straps
Upper and lower straps hold the wrap around the hive body. Each strap has a buckle and an adjuster for changing its length.
Hook-and-loop overlap
The fabric edges overlap and press together along the hook-and-loop fastening surfaces. The close-up images below show the closure in detail.
Coverage around the hive body
In the pictured setup, the wrap sits beneath the lid and finishes above the wooden base, covering the hive body between them.

Fit, fastening and what to expect from WinterGuard Wrap™.
Will it fit my Langstroth hive?
Check your hive’s outside width, depth and the height of the boxes you want to cover. An 8-frame or 10-frame label alone does not confirm fit. Compare your measurements and box arrangement with the confirmed sizing for your selected wrap before ordering.
Review the fit checklistWhat if I use extra boxes or a quilt box?
Adding or removing boxes changes the height you need to cover. Measure the complete configuration you plan to use for winter, including any extra components that affect the wrap’s position. Strap adjustment alone does not establish compatibility with a taller or differently shaped setup.
It’s my first winter with bees. How does installation work?
The video shows the closure sequence: close the hook-and-loop overlap, then fasten the upper and lower buckles. Use it to see how the closures work, and follow the fit and setup instructions for your particular hive before tightening the straps.
Do I need tape, staples or separate ties?
The demonstrated fastening method uses the wrap’s own hook-and-loop closure and two buckle straps. Those are the closures shown securing the wrap around the hive body. Other parts of your winter hive setup should still follow their own installation instructions.
How do the straps and overlap work together?
The hook-and-loop surfaces join the overlapping fabric edges. The two horizontal straps then buckle around the hive body, with an adjuster on each strap to change its length. The close-up photos above show both fastening systems so you can see exactly how the wrap closes.
Does it cover the lid and base too?
The pictured installation shows coverage around the hive body: the upper edge sits beneath the lid and the lower edge finishes above the wooden base. The lid and base remain visible. Check placement for your own configuration rather than assuming every hive will look identical.
Can I reopen it to access my hive?
Yes. The buckles release and the hook-and-loop overlap can be opened and closed again. Depending on the access you need, you may need to loosen or remove the wrap. When refitting it, check the overlap, strap adjustment and position against your setup instructions.
Why choose this over a makeshift winter covering?
WinterGuard Wrap™ combines a wraparound cover, a reopenable overlap and two adjustable buckle straps in one design. The comparison video shows the difference in arrangement and fastening alongside separate panels held with tape. Choose it for that fitted construction and fastening method; the clip is not a thermal-performance test.
What am I buying—is the wooden hive included?
You’re buying WinterGuard Wrap™, not the wooden hive shown in the photos and videos. The hives demonstrate placement and fastening. Check the selected product option and its contents before checkout; other equipment shown in a scene should not be assumed to be included.
When should I put the wrap on or take it off?
There isn’t one calendar date that suits every apiary. Plan around your local seasonal conditions and hive setup, and follow the wrap’s instructions alongside guidance from a local beekeeping mentor or extension service. The installation video demonstrates fastening, rather than a universal winter schedule.
Does wrapping replace the rest of my winter preparation?
No. Treat the wrap as one part of your winter plan. Food stores, colony health and mite management still need attention. Keep following seasonal care guidance for your area; a wrap does not guarantee that a colony will survive winter.
